Potsdam, NY – Three goals in the opening seven minutes put the Clarkson University Women's Lacrosse team on top early, but Rensselaer battled back and pulled away for a 13-6 victory in Upstate Collegiate Athletic Association (UCAA) action at Clarkson Field on Friday afternoon.
The Golden Knights jumped out to the lead on goals by senior Colleen Flynn (Syracuse, NY) and freshmen Lindsey Grigg (Watertown, NY) and Emily Cohen (Delmar, NY), but the RedHawks came back to out scored the Knights 6-4 in the first half, including two goals in the final 25 seconds of the opening period
Hillary Lahn scored seven goals to lead Rensselaer (6-4, 3-2 UCAA). The RedHawks dominated in the second half by outscoring Clarkson 7-2 en route to their third straight win.
Cohen led Clarkson with two goals, while junior Ashley Edson (Lebanon, NH) and sophomore Lindsay Roberts scored one goal apiece for the Knights.
Rensselaer out shot Clarkson 31-23 and held a slight advantage in groundballs, 32-31.
Senior Allison Morlock (Lebanon, NH) posted 12 stops for the Knights through 54 minutes of play. Freshman Erin Duffy (Liverpool, NY) turned aside the only shot she faced in the final six minutes
At 3-7 overall and 0-6 in the UCAA, Clarkson plays Vassar College in a 2:00 p.m. game at SUNY Potsdam on Saturday.
