Potsdam, NY – Senior point guard Linda Fernandez (Kennebunkport, ME) finished with 8 points, 6 rebounds, 8 assists and 9 steals, but her all-around effort wasn’t quite enough to end St. Lawrence’s winning streak as the Saints defeated the Clarkson University Women’s Basketball team 53-49 Tuesday evening in a Liberty League contest at Alumni Gym.

The Golden Knights dropped to 3-13 overall and 0-5 in conference play, while the Saints improved to 8-6 overall with their fifth straight win, moving to 4-1 in the Liberty League.

In the opening half, the Golden Knights started off with a 4-0 run and trailed by no more than two at any point in the half.  Neither team was able to take much control of the play, with Clarkson building their lead to five points late in the half before the Saints ended with a 4-0 run to cut the advantage to a single point at intermission. Fernandez scored four points, grabbed three rebounds, dished out three assists and made four steals in the opening half.

St. Lawrence jumped out to a quick lead in the second half, slipping out to a 35-28 lead with a 12-4 run to start the half. The Golden Knights cut the lead to two on a couple of occasions, but could not score the tying basket for the remainder of the half.

Junior Erika Fritjofson (East Barre, VT) scored a team-high 11 points, making three of her four 3-point attempts, while sophomore Mickala Henson (Waverly, NY) contributed 10 points and six rebounds off the bench.

Jessica Zuk led the Saints with 11 points and five rebounds while Meredith Pridgen and Kimberly Sikule each reached double-digits with 10 points.
