With Clarkson goaltender, junior Dustin Traylen (Kirkland, QUE) out of the net for the extra attacker, Latulippe jammed in his team-high 14th goal of the season, and 101st career point, off an assist from freshman Nick Dodge (Oakville, ONT) during a scramble in front to force overtime. Both teams had two shots in the five-minute sudden death extra session, but Colgate had the best opportunity to pull out the victory by skating on a power play in the final 62 seconds of the game.
The Knights, who trailed 3-1 entering the third, pulled to within one when sophomore Mike Sullivan (Stouffville, ONT) gathered in the puck behind the Colgate goal and slipped in his eighth goal of the year with Latulippe picking up his 100th career point with an assist on the goal at 4:44.
Benefiting from three straight power plays to start the first, Clarkson dominated the opening 20 minutes out shooting Colgate 10-5, but trailed on the scoreboard 2-1. The Knights came back to tie at 10:54 when senior Chris Blight (Cambridge, ONT) connected off assists from sophomore defenseman Michael Grenzy (Lockport, NY) and freshman Shawn Weller (South Glens Falls, NY) with a wrist shot from the right circle late in a 5-on-3 power play. Colgate regained the advantage with 2:34 left in the first when Mike Campaner’s shot from the point deflected in a off a Clarkson stick in front for a power play goal. Burton scored his second of the game and team-high 16th of the season at 10:11 off assists from blueline partners Joey Mormina and Justin Spencer to give Colgate a two-goal advantage after 40 minutes.
