The
Clarkson University Hockey team will look to rebound from its worst defeat of the season after suffering a
6-1 defeat at
ECAC Hockey League newcomer Quinnipiac University on Friday night.
The Golden Knights, at 13-12-2 overall and 6-8-1 in the ECACHL, will strive for their first win on the road since early December when they play at Princeton on Saturday night.
At the Northford Ice Pavilion on Friday, Clarkson found itself in a deep hole midway through the first period and could never recover as Quinnipiac picked up it first win ever over the Knights. The Bobcats took control with three goals in a span of 2:53 to hold a commanding 3-0 lead at 11:26.
Clarkson generated some life in the second period on sophomore David Cayer’s (Longueuil, QUE) power-play marker at 8:20. Cayer picked up a rebound off a block shot from the point by junior defenseman Michael Grenzy (Lockport, NY) just 19 seconds into the Knights’ third power play of the game to score his 11th goal of the season. Sophomore assistant captain Nick Dodge (Oakville, ONT) also assisted.
Quinnipiac, however, scored its fourth goal early in the third to put a halt to Clarkson’s attempt to rally. The Bobcats added two more goals in 1:59 span midway through the third to hold a 6-1 lead at 10:40.
The Bobcats out shot the Knights 33-18, including an 8-1 margin in the opening 20 minutes. Sophomore David Leggio (Williamsville, NY) posted 27 saves. Clarkson was 1-of-5 on the power play, while Quinnipiac was 1-of-9 with the man advantage.
