April 12, 2006

Watertown, NY - Locked up at 3-3 through six innings, Brockport State doubled up the Clarkson University Baseball team over the final three innings as the Golden Knights lost their non-league match up with the Golden Eagles 9-6 Wednesday afternoon at Duffy Fairgrounds.

Clarkson dropped to 11-11 overall and continues a five-game non-league stretch with a doubleheader against Utica College on Saturday. Brockport State improved to 13-11 on the season.

The Golden Eagles got on the scoreboard first with two runs in the top of the third inning, but the Knights responded with three in the bottom half of the inning, scoring runs on three straight hits from Brian Theilemann (Troy, NY), TJ Brinkman (Troy, NY) and Mike Bresett (Norwood, NY). Brockport picked up another run in the fourth inning, but the teams remained tied until the seventh inning.

The Eagles picked up an unearned run in the seventh and another unearned run in the eighth inning before opening up with four runs in the top of the ninth inning to take a commanding 9-3 lead. Clarkson held off the Eagles victory for a few outs in the bottom of the ninth inning as Sal DiSanza (Eldbridge, NY) plated two runners with a single to center and Brinkman sent DiSanza home on a double to left-center, making the final 9-6.

Theilemann and Brinkman each went 3-for-5 and Rob Cowin (Albany, NY) was 2-for-3. Darrell Carey (Bohemia, NY) started the game for the Golden Knights, striking out four in three innings. Jaime Tunison (Ithaca, NY) pitched three-plus innings of relief before being replaced by Ian Yerdon (Syracuse, NY), who was saddled with the loss in an inning and a third of relief.
