January 30, 2007

Canton, NY - Andrea Muszynski shot 8-for-12 from the floor and scored a game-high 18 points as St. Lawrence prolonged its winning streak to 17 games as the Clarkson University Women's Basketball team dropped a 63-35 Liberty League decision Tuesday night at Burkman Gymnasium.

The Saints, ranked 30th in the latest d3hoops.com poll, improved to 18-1 overall and 8-0 in the conference while Clarkson saw its record fall to 6-19 and 2-6 in the league.

The Golden Knights' guards were under constant pressure as the Saints forced Clarkson into several turnovers and pushed the tempo in the opening minutes. Clarkson held tough and kept the Saints advantage to a minimum for the first 10 minutes but, despite a strong advantage in rebounds, couldn't slow down St. Lawrence's offense as the Saints shot 15-for-31 in the first half.

St. Lawrence continued its full-court pressure late into the second half as the Saints forced Clarkson into 32 turnovers in the game. The Knights out rebounded St. Lawrence 37-28 and came through with 15 boards on the offensive end, but Clarkson shot just 6-for-24 in the second half and was unable to utilize its second chance opportunities.

Senior Vanessa Westcott (Parish, NY) led Clarkson in scoring for the fifth straight game, shooting 3-for-6 from the field for a team-high 8 points. Sophomore Monica Thomas (Sandwich, MA) produced six points in 21 minutes for Clarkson.

Jamie Wolff scored 13 points, shooting 5-for-8 with three 3-point field goals, and made five steals for St. Lawrence. Muszynski supplemented her 18 points with six steals and four rebounds.
