Second-Half, 3-Point Barrage Dooms Knights at RPI

February 3, 2007

Troy, NY - Productive showings from Jon Youngmann (Corinth, NY) and Brandon Linton (Queens, NY) were outdone by Rensselaer's Neal Wesson as the Clarkson University Men's Basketball team's solid shooting performance was drowned out by the senior guard's 26 points in a 77-57 loss to the Red Hawks Saturday afternoon.

The Golden Knights fell to 12-9 overall and 3-7 in the Liberty League while the Red Hawks improved to 11-9 overall and 4-5 in conference play. Clarkson hosts Hobart and Hamilton next weekend to finish the home slate.

Though Clarkson was able to keep the game close in the first half, trailing by just five points (32-27) at the half, the Rensselaer shooters caught fire in the second half and extended the team's advantage with a barrage of long-range shots. The team shot 12-for-20 from beyond the 3-point arc (60.0%) for the game and went 16-for-24 (66.7%) from the field in the second half.

Neal Wesson scored a game-high 26 points, shooting 9-for-18 from the field, including six 3-point field goals. Graham Gordon added 12 points, shooting 5-for-7 from the floor, and grabbed eight rebounds.

Jon Youngmann scored 15 points and Brandon Linton contributed 13 points as both players made five of their six attempts from the field. Senior EJ Harrison (Troy, NY) also tossed in 12 points for the Golden Knights.
