Hanover, NH - The road woes continued for the Clarkson University Hockey team as the Golden Knights lost to Dartmouth 3-1 in Hanover, NH on Friday night. Ranked 11th in the nation entering the weekend, Clarkson will look to find its A-game on the road tomorrow night when they play at Harvard in Cambridge, MA. The Knights, who stand at 11-7-1 overall and 6-3 in ECAC Hockey action, are just 2-6-1 away from Cheel Arena.
For the seventh straight game the Knights surrendered the opening goal to fall into the early deficit. After a scoreless first period, the Big Green (6-7-1, 3-6-1) went on top at 9:16 of the second stanza. Moments after killing off Clarkson’s third power play of the contest, Jon Grecu finished off a 3-on-1 to give the home team the lead.
Clarkson’s power play finally connected, snapping out of a 0-for-11 drought when senior Steve Zalewski (New Hartford, NY) scored his team-high 9th goal of the season on a shot from the top of the right circle at 7:11 of the third. Sophomore Matt Beca (Mississauga, ONT) extended his point-scoring streak to six games by setting up the power-play marker. Junior Shea Guthrie (Carleton Place, ONT) also assisted on the tying goal.
The Big Green regained the lead at 16:28 when Kyle Reeds found a bouncing puck during a scramble at the side of the Clarkson net and was able to put it past the Knights’ senior goaltender David Leggio (Williamsville, NY) for the game-winner.
With 50 seconds remaining, J.T. Wyman scored into an empty net to post the two-goal victory.
Clarkson held a 37-35 shot advantage. Leggio finished with 32 saves, including 23 through the first 40 minutes. Mike Devine had 36 saves.
The Knights were 1-of-5 on the power play, and killed off both Big Green man-advantage opportunities.
