Poughkeepsie, NY - Sophomore Lauren Pluchino (Liverpool, NY) recorded double-figures for the third straight game, scoring a game-high 16 points, as the Clarkson University Women's Basketball team outlasted Vassar College 54-50 in Liberty League play Friday night.
The Golden Knights got on the winning side of the conference tote board with the victory, improving to 6-9 overall and 1-3 in the Liberty League, while the Brewers dropped to 2-11 and 0-4.
Neither team seemed able to get much momentum in the first half, as both Vassar and the Knights briefly held five-point leads at different times in the period, with Vassar going into the locker room with a 22-21 lead.
Staring the second half, the Brewers pushed out to a six-point lead (36-30) midway through the frame, but Clarkson again came back to tie the score up. With the tally knotted up at 48-48 late in the contest, freshman Amanda Koenck (Pottstown, PA) buried a 3-pointer with 2:21 to go, giving the Knights a lead they would never relinquish. For good measure, junior Michelle Reddinger (Baldwinsville, NY) tacked on a lay up and a free throw to give Clarkson a two-possession advantage with just 30 seconds to go.
Pluchino shot 7-for-9 from the field for her 16 points, and added in six rebounds. Reddinger tossed in 15 points and six rebounds, and freshman Carey Turner (Clifton Park, NY) contributed nine points. Emily Haeuser led Vassar with 16 points, 16 rebounds, and 5 blocks, but shot only 5-for-18 from the field. Brittany Parks added 11 points for the Brewers.
