Clarkson Sets Program Record with 12 Wins in Women's Lacrosse

Freshman goaltender Samantha Gladd backstopped a solid defensive outing and junior Ashley Flick paced the offensive effort as the Clarkson University Women's Lacrosse team defeated RPI 9-2 in Liberty League action on the road in Troy, NY on Friday afternoon.

Winners of three straight, the Golden Knights have set a program record for victories in a season with a 12-2 overall record, including a 6-1 conference mark. Clarkson plays its final road game of the regular season on Saturday with a 2:00 p.m. Liberty League game at Skidmore.

Gladd stopped two of the four shots she faced as Clarkson dominated the game at RPI, outshooting the Engineers 15-4 and controlling ground balls 24-9.  The Green and Gold also were strong on draws with a 10-3 advantage in draw controls.

In a tight first half, RPI opened the scoring  six minutes in, but Clarkson came back with two goals by Flick and a single tally by senior Emma Jeffery to take a 3-1 lead after the opening 30 minutes.

The Knights added two more scores, with sophomores Casey Shannon and Taylor Collins finding the back of the net to give Clarkson a 5-1 lead seven minutes into the second half. The Engineers got one back with 17 minutes remaining, but that would be it for the home team as the Green and Gold cruised the rest of the way, adding four more goals.

Junior Christina Pollard, Flick, and junior Kate Dillon, with two goals, closed out the scoring.

Flick finished with three goals and one assist. Dillon posted three points (2-1).

Senior Stephanie Lynch picked up a game-high five ground balls.
