Knights Extend Winning Streak to Six with Sweep of Potsdam

Potsdam, NY – Freshman Gillian Kurtic recorded 10 kills in just two sets as the Clarkson University Volleyball team picked up its sixth straight win with a three-set sweep (25-21, 25-12, 25-18) of crosstown rival SUNY Potsdam on Tuesday evening.

The Golden Knights improved to 16-7 overall and will head to Rochester this coming weekend to take on Buffalo State, Cortland State and the University of Rochester to close out the regular season. Potsdam dropped to 11-16.

In the first set, it took some time before the Golden Knights got themselves settled on offense, but set number two was a different story. Clarkson's service game was impressive with six aces, most coming in the early going. Set number three saw Potsdam get going on offense, but Clarkson finished off the match by scoring 12 of the final 14 points, rallying from a three-point deficit (16-13) to take a 25-18 win.

Kurtic finished with a team-best 10 kills with three errors on 16 swings, but her line becomes even more impressive when it is noted that her first two swings resulted in errors before getting going. Rachael Aird struck for nine kills with no errors on 13 attempts and Kendall Cheval chipped in seven kills with just a single miscue on 17 attacks to go along with nine digs. Jillian Saenz finished with 22 assists and Amanda Collins added 11 assists. Kate Isaksen was the team's top defender in the back row with 18 digs, and she also finished with four aces. Overall, six different players recorded at least one ace for the Golden Knights.
