CU Men's Lacrosse Preview - vs. Skidmore College (4/22)

Only two games remain in the regular season for the Clarkson University Men's Lacrosse team, and the Golden Knights will likely have to win them both if they hope to reach the Liberty League Tournament in May.

Clarkson enters the game with a record of 7-5 overall and is 2-3 in the Liberty League. Coming up next for the Golden Knights is Skidmore, which is 6-7 overall and likewise needs to win both of its games to get into the conference tournament. Clarkson holds a narrow 12-11 lead in the all-time series, but the Knights have controlled the series in recent years with wins in four of the last five meetings.

Last time out, Clarkson nearly upended sixth-ranked Cortland State, and the Knights will look to bring that high level of play into Saturday's contest against Skidmore. Senior Ryan DaRin has a team-best 38 points and ranks second in the league in goals per game at 2.67, having tallied 32 through 12 games. Classmate Ryan St. Croix surpassed the 100-goal mark for his career on Wednesday and now has 29 points on 22 goals and seven assists, while fellow senior Kyle Brown has 24 points with 19 goals and five assists, including seven goals in the last two games. Freshman Conor Bartlett has done a good job of finding the upperclassmen, leading the team with 18 assists and ranking second in points (31).

Freshman Ryan Gabriel continues his outstanding first year with the Knights having won 59.8% of his draws (134-for-224) with a team-best 41 groundballs. Just behind Gabriel in that category, Mark Uhlig (36 groundballs) and Marc Simmons (31 groundballs) have also excelled at picking up the loose balls. Justin Gibson (18 groundballs, 16 caused turnovers) and Michael Nourse (10 caused turnovers) lead the defense, and Nick Strandholm has served as a solid backstop with an 8.59 goals against average, .566 save percentage, and 125 saves overall.

Though Skidmore goaltender Chris Baughan has a 9.65 goals against average, he has seen, and denied, more than his fair share of shots, producing a .575 save percentage and a league-high 154 saves. Helping out defensively, Chris Sibilia has a team-best 17 caused turnovers, but three others have reached double figures in that category as well. Logan Hart (23 groundballs, 11 caused turnovers), Alex Towey (22 groundballs, 15 caused turnovers) and Will Pottow (21 groundballs, 11 caused turnovers) have served as productive ball hawks on the defensive end.

Will Lukas leads the Thoroughbreds with 35 points, doing most of his damage by finding teammates to the tune of 23 assists. Brendan Halloran (21-10-31) and Cody Legeza (24-1-25) have both surpassed the 20-goal mark, while Jack Metzler has chipped in 20 points on eight goals and 12 assists.
