Freshmen Lead Charge in 3-0 Win Over Bard

Annandale-on-Hudson, NY – Freshmen led the offensive charge for the Clarkson University Men's Soccer team on Friday afternoon as a trio of first-year players scored to help the Golden Knights to a 3-0 victory over Bard College in Liberty League action.

The Golden Knights remained unbeaten in conference games at 4-0-2 and improved to 8-3-2 overall while Bard dropped to 1-11-1 and 0-6-0. Clarkson faces Vassar College tomorrow afternoon.

Despite controlling play in the opening minutes, Clarkson was unable to get a shot off in the first 13-plus minutes although the team had five corner kick chances. Henry Gomez missed high late in the 14th minute. That began a solid span of offense that included four shots, but it wasn't until the 33rd minute that the Knights got on the board. Clarkson was awarded another corner kick, and this time took advantage of the opportunity as Matt Adamou received a short corner and crossed to the far post, finding freshman Michael Tocci in front at 32:18 to put the Knights up 1-0.

That goal was all that Clarkson would need, but the Knights would continue to pour on the offense with double-digit shots in the second half. The Knights found pay dirt twice in the final 45 minutes, with first-year collegian Devon Bahr scoring on a low shot in the 61st minute. Bahr's goal actually was an attempted clear by the Raptors, but he took the brunt of the kick and deflected the ball in. Joey White converted Clarkson's third score of the day, heading the ball in the upper corner off a corner kick in the 73rd minute, with the assist going to senior John Furcick. The goal for Bahr was his second of the season and White's tally was the first of his college career.

Clarkson finished with a 19-5 edge in shots (9-2 shots on goal) and 10-1 lead in corner kicks. Ian Roeloffs picked up his fifth straight league shutout with two saves and Logan Leppo made six saves for the Raptors.
