CU Women's Lacrosse Preview - vs. Vassar (3/30)

For the majority of the remaining games on the schedule, the Clarkson University Women's Lacrosse team will be playing for a playoff spot as eight of the final nine games for the Golden Knights are Liberty League contests, beginning with a home contest against Vassar on Saturday afternoon at Hantz Turf Field.

The Series: This will be the 20th meeting between the two teams and Vassar holds a 13-6 edge in the first 19 contests. Clarkson has won two of the past three games against the Brewers, including a 17-7 victory last year in Poughkeepsie.

Key Stats for Clarkson (4-4, 1-0 Liberty League): With four points on Tuesday night, junior Katie Sergeant pushed her career total to 97 (84 goals, 13 assists) and she ranks second on the team this year in both goals (19) and points (21). Classmate Aubrey Borgesi has already eclipsed last year's total for goals with 20 this season and she has recorded multiple goal games in six of the team's eight contests in 2019. Senior Jaid Baytos is tied with Borgesi for third on the team in scoring with 20 points, and she has produced significantly against Vassar in the last two years with nine goals and two assists for 11 points, including an eight-point effort last year. Borgesi tallied four times against the Brewers last season while Abby Collins matched that production last year and also scored twice versus Vassar in 2018.

Key Stats for Vassar (4-2, 1-0 Liberty League): The Brewers hold a 177-114 edge in shots against their opponents this year, outshooting the opposition in five of six contests with double-digit advantages in four of those games. Vassar is second in the league in scoring average with 14.0 goals per game and the team is scoring on 59.2% of its shots on goal. Kelly Pushie leads the team in scoring with 24 points on 10 goals and 14 assists, but three others have reached double figures in goals already as well. Alessandra Fable (15), Tessa Waters (10) and Caeli Porette (10) each join Pushie with 10 or more goals this year. Porette also is already in double figures in groundballs (14), caused turnovers (15) and draw controls (20). Senior Fiona MacLeod has put up solid numbers the last two years against Clarkson with five goals and three assists for eight points to go along with seven groundballs and five caused turnovers.
