Swedberg Scores 16 as Knights Sweep Norwich with 70-60 Victory

Norwich, VT – Junior Reese Swedberg recorded his second double-double of the season with 16 points and 12 rebounds as the Clarkson University Men's Basketball team earned a 70-60 win over Norwich University Sunday afternoon.

The Golden Knights improved to 5-3 on the season and will close out their campaign on Thursday when the team hosts SUNY Canton. Norwich dropped to 0-6 on the season.

The Cadets scored first and had the lead for the first 75 seconds or so after the initial make, but Clarkson went on a 13-2 run in five minutes, capped off by a Chris Hulbert 3-pointer at 13:48 to put the Knights up early. Clarkson's lead would get pushed to as many as 11 points midway through the first half following a Jason Phelps 3-pointer, but the Knights' offense was quiet for the final 10 minutes and Norwich took advantage, slowly chipping away at the deficit. Tayjaun McKenzie hit a 3-pointer with 1:28 remaining to get the Cadets within two, and Kyle Booth nailed a jumper with 50 seconds remaining to tie the game 31-31.

The intermission allowed Norwich to enjoy its recovery after trailing for most of the first half, but Clarkson opened the second period with a 10-0 run thanks to 3-pointers from Hulbert and Joe Lucas. Meanwhile, the Cadets were sluggish after the break, missing their first five shots and committing five turnovers in their first 10 possessions. Norwich broke out with two baskets to get back within six, but Roburt Welch hit a 3-pointer to make it 44-35, and that was the last time that Clarkson would hold less than a double-digit advantage. Clarkson led by as many as 18 when Phelps hit a 3-pointer with 5:47 to go. Samuel-Noah Osarenkhoe made two 3-pointers down the stretch to get Norwich within striking distance only to see Clarkson get looks on the inside and keep the Cadets at a safe distance.

Swedberg had 16 points and 12 boards in the game, shooting 8-for-14 from the floor. Jason Phelps chipped in 12 points and had three 3-pointers while Hulbert added 10 points. Both Phelps and Hulbert also snagged seven rebounds.

Samuel-Noah Osarenkhoe kept Norwich in the game with an impressive shooting performance, going 9-for-9 from the floor with six 3-pointers to score 26 points. No other player for the Cadets had more than six points.
