Knights Drop Doubleheader to Brockport, 5-4 and 9-3

Auburndale, FL – Big innings doomed the Clarkson University Baseball team, as the Golden Knights suffered a doubleheader sweep against Brockport on Saturday evening, dropping a doubleheader to the Golden Eagles 5-4 and 9-3 at Lake Myrtle Baseball Complex.

The Golden Knights (0-4) are still searching for their first win of the 2023 season, and the team will look to get on the winning side of things tomorrow when the team faces Dickinson. Brockport moved to 4-3.

In the opener, Clarkson played from behind as Brockport scored five runs in the first two innings. Patrick Bigham drove in a run in the first on a sacrifice fly, but the Golden Eagles pushed the margin to five when they put up four runs in the second. James Houlahan drove in a run with a single, another run came in on a balk, Johnny Genau drove in a run with a single, and then Genau scored on passed ball.

Clarkson scored a pair of runs in both the fifth and sixth innings to close the gap to one. In the fifth, Jake Millich singled and Caleb Doyle then reached on an error to put runners on first and second. CJ Cartier followed with a single to drive in Millich, and Colby Brouillette then singled to send in Doyle. With one down in the sixth, James Mason singled and Quinn Maslowski singled to put runners on first and second. Jake Millich then doubled to plate Mason, and after Doyle reached when he was hit by a pitch, CJ Cartier singled in Maslowski. The Knights had a chance in the seventh by putting the tying run on base, but Andrew Huffman struck out three hitters in the inning to close out the game for Brockport.

Game two saw Brockport take the lead in the top of the first on an RBI single from Bigham, but Clarkson scored three in the bottom half of the frame. Millich drove in Doyle with an RBI single, Cam Jerrett forced in a run with a bases loaded walk, and Joe Pagano singled in another run. Brockport responded in its next at bat as Houlahan delivered a two-run single and Genau hit a two-run double to put the Golden Eagles up 5-3. The score remained at 5-3 until the seventh when the Golden Eagles scored four insurance runs. Zach Eldred drove in a run with a single, David Belsito plated two with a single, and another run came around on a sac bunt.
