Knights Win Second Straight Conference Game, Downing Skidmore 15-11

Potsdam, NY – A pair of Hailey Millington goals got the Clarkson University Women's Lacrosse team off to a strong start, and some late draws and a goal from the junior in the final seconds capped things off as the Golden Knights led from wire to wire in a 15-11 win over Skidmore College Friday afternoon at Hantz Field.

The Golden Knights improved to 7-5 overall and 2-3 in the Liberty League, while Skidmore fell to 6-4 and 2-3. Clarkson looks to pick up its third straight win in conference play on Saturday when the team takes on Union College.

Millington scored the first two goals of the game and Clarkson enjoyed a 3-0 lead just eight minutes into the contest, but Skidmore rallied with a pair of goals only 26 seconds apart to get back to within one. For the remainder of the half, the scoring almost entirely belonged to the Golden Knights, as Clarkson went on a 7-1 run in a stretch of just 12 minutes, getting three goals from Madelynn Barnum in that time frame. Clarkson went into the locker room, confidently, with a 10-3 lead.

That confidence briefly waned at the start of the second half, however, as Skidmore scored three time in the first six-plus minutes, pulling back to within four (10-6). Clarkson ended the run midway through the third quarter when Barnum tallied her fourth goal of the game, but it was a pair of goals from Lauren Shanahan in the final three minutes of the period that helped the Knights return their advantage to seven goals.

The fourth again saw Skidmore chip away at the deficit slowly, but Clarkson's seven-goal advantage at the start of the quarter was more than enough to hold off the Thoroughbreds.

Millington scored four goals and won 12 draw controls to lead the Knights. Madelynn Barnum had seven points on four goals and three assists and Shanahan finished with four goals. Mia Petrone found her teammates with four assists and Julia Lavarnway also added two goals. Julia Patterson caused two turnovers, and Jennaca McGill made eight saves in the crease for Clarkson.

For the Thoroughbreds, Gabriella Modesti scored five unassisted goals and also contributed two groundballs and two caused turnovers. Lyly Hudner came on offensively in the second half, scoring four goals and an assist in the final 30 minutes. Emma Sellers had three groundballs and caused two turnovers, and Liv Kazanjian stopped eight shots and also snagged six groundballs for Skidmore.
