Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Knights Six-Game Win Streak Halted Versus Hobart, 2-0

Potsdam, NY – A goal in the first seven minutes of the game put the Clarkson University Men's Soccer team on its heels and the Golden Knights could not find the equalizer in a 2-0 defeat against Hobart College on Saturday afternoon at Hantz Field.

The Golden Knights dropped to 6-2 overall and 2-1 in the Liberty League while Hobart edged to 4-4-1 and 3-0 in conference games. Clarkson takes on rival St. Lawrence University on Wednesday at Hantz Field.

Although Clarkson controlled the play for most of the first half, it was Hobart that would pick up a goal in the early going. A whistle on the outside left of the penalty area gave the Statesmen a free kick from about 20-25 yards away. With space to work, Lucas Montero took advantage of changing the sight line by tapping a short pass to Nolan Fierro, and Fierro took a hard shot with his right foot to the opposite post at 6:49.

It appeared as if Clarkson had tied the game less than five minutes later when Tayte Wong found Eric McKean with a cross, but much to the chagrin of the home bench and the collective Golden Knight fan base an offsides was whistled to nullify the goal. Clarkson continued to put pressure on the Hobart defense for the rest of the half, and finished with a 9-3 edge in shots before the halftime horn.

In the second half, momentum scooted towards Hobart, as the best scoring chances for the Knights came without the benefit of a shot, as balls were generally deflected away or punched out before Clarkson could get an opportunity under control. Hobart took advantage and outshot the Knights 10-2 in the second half, picking up a second goal near the midway point of the half. Amad Miller had the ball on the right side and sent a cross into the penalty area, where Quinn Phillips was able to head the ball in from about 10 yards away.

Hobart finished with a 13-11 lead in shots, though both teams had seven shots on goal in the contest. The Statesmen also had seven corner kicks to Clarkson's four. Josh Morelli made five stops for the Knights, while Guillermo Castaneda Chang made seven saves.
