Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Knights Pull Away Late for 3-1 Win Over Bard

Annandale-on-Hudson, NY – The offense was rolling throughout, but it wasn't until the second half that the Clarkson University Women's Soccer team was able to pull away, picking up a 3-1 victory over Bard College in Liberty League action Friday afternoon.

The Golden Knights improved to 4-6-2 overall and 1-3-1 in the Liberty League. The Green and Gold will look to add to its winning ways on Saturday when the team faces Vassar College.

Despite a significant advantage on shots, Clarkson gave up the first goal of the game on a restart near midfield. The Raptors had a direct kick near midfield and the first pass made it to about 30 yards short of the net. A few quick passes eventually went to the far right where a cross found Waleska Brito unmarked, and she was able to take a shot with a high header into the top corner at 19:01.

Clarkson would respond less than a minute later, this time intercepting a pass off a direct kick. Lillian Gillett made a stop and put the Knights in transition, finding Maddie Lopol on the left side at the top of the box. Lopol took one touch and ripped a shot with her right foot, sneaking the ball inside the far post to quickly tie the game 1-1.

The Knights would not allow another shot but rifled off another 14 over the final 24 minutes of the half with five making it on frame. However, none would beat Seymone Rosenberg as the teams were tied at the break 1-1. Clarkson held a 23-2 edge in shots in the first half and a 4-1 edge in corners.

Just a few minutes into the second half, the Golden Knights gained the lead and would never relinquish it. While it appeared as if the Knights were setting up for a cross off a corner kick, Julia Tylar played the ball quick to Chloe Hodge. After just a step or two Hodge was inside the penalty area and ripped a hard shot right at Rosenberg, but it had enough velocity behind it that it slipped through the goalkeeper's hands and bounced just over the lien at 48:23.

Clarkson continued to apply pressure throughout the second half and it appeared as if the Knights had a third goal on the board with about 20 minutes to play. Julia Tylar had a free kick from about 25 yards out and sent one into the box just short of the six, but the Golden Knights were slightly offside and the shot that went into the back of the net was nullified.

The goal that was called back mattered little, as the Knights would pick up their third goal of the contest just a few moments later. Rosenberg had a kick from inside the box that was picked off just short of midfield by the Knights. A nifty give-and-go allowed Rachael Matthews to have control on the right side. Her cross through the box skipped through traffic and found Brooke Butler for an easy tap in at the 75:00 mark.

Clarkson finished with a 35-3 edge in shots overall and a 15-3 lead in shots on goal while also taking 12 corners to Bard's one. Molly DiCaprio finished with two saves and Rosenberg had 12 saves for Bard. Chloe Hodge moved into a tie for second place on Clarkson's all-time scoring list with 47 career points thanks to her goal. She is tied for seventh in goals scored and is second in assists among Golden Knights.
