Troy, NY - With seven goals in the opening quarter and 11 in the first half for RPI, the Clarkson University Women's Lacrosse team could not keep pace with Rensselaer on Saturday afternoon as the Golden Knights fell 20-9 in the Liberty League regular-season finale.

Clarkson moved to 8-8 on the season and fell to 3-7 in Liberty League contests, while Rensselaer improved to 7-7 and 6-4.

Madelynn Barnum finished the season with 79 points on 66 goals and 13 assists, setting a school-record for goals in a season while her season total in points is the third-highest in program history. Julia Lavarnway matched her assist total from a year ago (47), tied for second in program history while her 77 points is the fourth-best figure in 45 seasons.

Rensselaer scored twice in the first 75 seconds to take an early lead only to see Clarkson battle back with the next two goals to tie the game near the midway mark of the quarter. However, RPI responded with four straight goals in a stretch of less than four minutes, including two while up a player. Clarkson tallied twice near the end of the first to keep it close. Each team then scored four goals in the second quarter as the offense continued, with the Knights eventually pulling to within one (8-7) when Barnum scored at 9:55. After Lavarnway found the net with 2:36 remaining, RPI scored the last two goals of the half to gain an 11-8 advantage.

After that, Clarkson's offense was shut down and unable to maintain the pace set by RPI. The Engineers scored four times in the third quarter and then scored five in the fourth, while the Knights picked up one goal while actually down a player in the middle of the fourth quarter.

Barnum scored four points on three goals and an assist and also added three draw controls and caused two turnovers. Makenna Cassin scored four goals and Lavanway had a pair of goals and two assists. Gabby Cranfield also assisted on two scores. Hailey Millington caused three turnovers and Meredith James also had two caused turnovers for the Knights.

For RPI, Gabbie Valle had six points (3-3-6), Lauren DeLeo scored five goals, and Audrey Silverman added in five points (3-2-5). Megan Shay also scored three times to go along with three groundballs, eight draws, and two caused turnovers.
