Six Knights Win Multiple Events as Clarkson Splits at St. Mike's

Colchester, VT – In her return to the pool this fall, Aurora Zary won a pair of individual events, joining five other members of the Clarkson University Swimming & Diving team with multiple wins, as the Golden Knights split with Saint Michael's College on Saturday afternoon.

The Golden Knights' men picked up a 184-107 victory while the Clarkson women fell to the Purple Knights 189-89. Clarkson has next weekend off from competition, and will return for the annual North Country Invitational on November 21-22.

Clarkson saw four of its individuals on the men's side win multiple events. Gavin Stuhler once again picked up a pair of victories in the sprint freestyle races, taking first in the 50 freestyle (22.34 seconds) and the 100 freestyle (48.65 seconds). Andrew Sammons won both of his starts in the breaststroke races, taking first in the 100 with a time of 1:01.74 and then repeating with a top time in the 200 at 2:17.76. Evan Paneras continued his hot start to the season, picking up a win in the 100 butterfly by 1.31 seconds (53.16) and then 4.43 seconds in the 200 butterfly (2:03.34). Gavin Cibelli also had the top scores in both of the diving events, scoring 235.87 in the 1-meter and 228.15 in the 3-meter.

The Golden Knights' men also had individual winners in the 100 backstroke (Mason Cartier, 55.03 seconds) and in the 200 individual medley (Owen White, 2:05.44). Clarkson's relay teams also picked up first-place points. The 200 medley relay team of Cartier, Sammons, Paneras, and Stuhler opened the meet with a victory in 1:38.62, while Andrew Sypko, Landon Colby, White, and Stuhler closed the day out with a win in the 200 freestyle relay in 1:31.76.

Clarkson's women had a pair of multiple event winners in Aurora Zary and Evelyn Vieira. Zary, fresh off the completion of her season with the Knights' women's soccer team, won the 100 backstroke by 3.86 seconds with a time of 1:06.53 and then claimed victory in the 200 backstroke in 2:22.13, a winning margin of 7.65 seconds. Vieira also had wins in the diving competitions for the Knights placing first in the 1-meter with 189.45 and then again in the 3-meter with 196.36 points.
