CU Men's Basketball Preview - vs Alfred State College (12/15)

With one last contest scheduled for 2025, the Clarkson University Men's Basketball team hosts the Alfred State Pioneers on December 15th at Alumni Gymnasium with tip-off slated for noon. Clarkson will host students from several surrounding school districts at the game.

The Series: Clarkson holds a 2-0 advantage in the overall series matchup between the schools with a win in the 2019-20 season and a 77-63 victory in Alfred last year. Braeden Burns recorded a 27 point, 14 rebound double-double as the team recorded 42 points in the paint. 

Key Stats for Clarkson (4-4, 0-3 Liberty League): The Golden Knights return to Alumni Gymnasium following two Liberty League losses at RPI and Union on the 5th and 6th of December. The team shot just 31% (18-59) from the field and 19% (7-23) from three on Friday, both the lowest marks of the campaign so far but overall turned the ball over just nine times in each contest. Burns leads Clarkson in scoring and rebounding with 16 ppg and 5.9 rebounds per game while shooting 49% from the field. Steve DeRegis tied his season-high with 23 points at Union, the junior averages 13.8 ppg while also dishing out 2.5 assists per outing. Aydin Kocak had a solid weekend, continuing to become a growing part of the offense for the Knights with 11 points on Friday and 12 on Saturday while shooting 7-14 from three over the two days. 


Key Stats for Alfred State (2-9, 0-3 AMCC): The Pioneers have scored just 105 points in their last two games combined, falling 61-91 to University of Pittsburgh at Greensburg on Saturday. The team shot just 34% (22-65) from the field and 31% (8-26) from three point range. Mykell Lawson (17.7 ppg) and Darius Cunningham Jr. (15.7) are the only scorers averaging double-figures. Cunningham Jr. also boasts an average of 6.3 rebounds per contest, a team-high while Lawson has 17 steals through the first 11 games. Eli Taft has split action this season between starting and coming off the bench, the junior averages 7.3 ppg and 2.5 assists per outing.
