Reigelsperger Sets Career-Best Time, Capoccia Nearly Does the Same as Knights Run at SLU Invite

Canton, NY – Drew Reigelsperger and Gianna Capoccia topped the team leaderboard for the Clarkson University Cross Country team as the Golden Knights competed at the annual Ronald C. Hoffmann Invitational, hosted by St. Lawrence University.

The Golden Knights' men ended up in fifth place with 148 points, trailing Queens (30), Middlebury (51), St. Lawrence (66) and LeMoyne (112) but ahead of Norwich (202), Ottawa (204), Plattsburgh State (243), Paul Smiths (272), SUNY Canton (298) and SUNY Potsdam (298). The Clarkson women ended up in eighth place out of nine with 198 points, behind Middlebury (27), Queens (30), St. Lawrence (80), LeMoyne (131), Plattsburgh State (164), Norwich (176), and Ottawa (189) while ahead of SUNY Canton (291).

Saturday's races began with the men's 8000-meter, and Reigelsperger posted a career-best 26 minutes, 19.2 seconds, topping his previous best 8K time by more than 16 seconds. That rush at the end allowed him to place 22nd overall in a field of 169 runners. Sophomore Frank Consolazio was next for the Knights, taking the 50th spot in 27:12.4, and classmate James Lynch was third among Clarkson runners with a time of 28:00.3, good enough for 63rd. A pair of newcomers to the program rounded out Clarkson's team score, as freshman Jack Zieber came in 65th (28:16.8) and junior Spencer Reese placed 68th (28:20.8). The two secondary times were not far behind with Tyson Fuller coming in 70th (28:25.0) and Finley Knappe taking 78th (29:01.4).

Capoccia had the second-best time of her collegiate career, as she crossed the finish line of the 6000-meter course in 24:41.4, putting her in the 45th spot among 118 runners in the women's event. Next for the Knights was Skylar Francis in 69th with a time of 26:22.2 and Meagan Speizer was two spots behind for 71st in 26:36.9. Janneke Baks finished 80th in 27:23.4 and was followed by Elizabeth Kraynak in the 90th position in 29:30.2 to close out Clarkson's team score. The two reserved scoring positions were held by Madeline Bresnan (95th, 30:10.3) and Kelly Lahiff (97th, 30:16.8).
