A late rally for the Clarkson University Women’s Lacrosse team came up short as the Golden Knights lost their final game of the season, an 11-8 setback at Liberty League foe Skidmore College in Saratoga Springs, NY on Saturday afternoon.
Clarkson, which tied the school record for wins in a season, finished the 2010 campaign with a 6-9 overall record and a 0-8 mark in the Liberty League.
Trailing 11-5 with just under eight minutes to play, Clarkson rattled off three consecutive goals with senior Kimberly Loucks (Waterloo, NY), junior Cammie Hayes (Queensbury, NY) and freshman Alyssa Cristaldi (North Syracuse, NY) finding the back of the net to make it a three-goal contest with 2:43 left in regulation. The Knights, however, could pull no closer as they dropped their fifth straight game.
The Thoroughbreds (7-7, 3-3) held a 5-3 lead at the half.
Loucks, Hayes, Cristaldi and freshman Katie VanDeValk (Baldwinsville, NY) scored two goals each for the Green and Gold. Cristaldi also set up one goal to set a new Clarkson record for assists in a season with 22.
Sophomore Hannah Walters (Amherst, NH) kept the Knights in the game with a 19-save effort as Skidmore outshot Clarkson 39-20. The Thoroughbreds had a 30-25 edge in ground balls. Walters recorded a team-high five groundballs.
Lauren Madden scored four goals for Union.
