CU Women's Lacrosse Preview - vs. RPI/Skidmore (4/10-11)

It's still early in the Liberty League season, but this weekend could go along way to straightening out a very muddled playoff picture as the Clarkson University Women's Lacrosse team will take on Rensselaer and Skidmore at Hantz Turf Field.

The Golden Knights enter the weekend with a record of 7-3 overall and 2-1 in the Liberty League, tied for second with both Rensselaer (4-4, 2-1) and Skidmore (7-3, 2-1). Along with the threesome tied at 2-1 in the conference, four other teams are just a half game behind at 2-2 in the league. Clarkson will look to end a 23-game losing streak against Rensselaer (the last win came during the 1991 season) and the Knights are 4-22 all-time against Skidmore, but the two teams have split the last eight meetings.

Junior Christine Wright still leads the Liberty League in scoring with 51 points, ranking first in total assists (23) and fifth in goals (28). Sophomore Paige Fayette scored five points on Tuesday and took another step towards the 100-point mark for her career, entering the game with 96 points, thanks to 28 goals and 10 assists in 2015. She also ranks second on the team in groundballs (19) and caused turnovers (10). Freshman Taylor Collins ranks third on the team in scoring with 15 goals and has also produced team-bests with 20 groundballs and 29 draw controls, eight ahead of Mollie Simmons, who ranks second in that category. Emma Jeffery is the team's top defender with 11 caused turnovers and she has also produced 18 groundballs and five goals. The last line of defense for the Knights is junior Dani Tani, who ranks third in the league with a goals against average of 9.11.

Both Rensselaer and Skidmore rank among the top three defensive teams in the conference, with both allowing less than nine goals per contest. The top player for the Engineers thus far is Erin Riley, who ranks second on the team in points with 23 (16 goals, seven assists) and is also among the team leaders in groundballs (16), caused turnovers (13) and draw controls (28). Meg Colitz leads the team in goals (18) and has 21 points overall while Sophie Hager has team-bests of 29 points and 20 assists. Jamie Wakefield also has produced solid all-around numbers with nine points, 23 groundballs, 19 draws and nine caused turnovers and Lydia Wolter has contributed 22 groundballs and 11 caused turnovers. Erin Amarello has started seven of the team's eight games and is allowing 9.77 goals per game with a 44.5% save percentage.

Skidmore leads the conference in defense (7.87 gpg) with a strong effort from goalkeeper Megan Kolopsky, who has a 8.15 goals against average, the top figure in the league, and a 46.5% save percentage. Ranking third in the conference in offense, Skidmore is led by Tyler Phillips, who has produced 32 goals and 39 points overall. Her 32 goals are the most in the league, and her numbers are bolstered by 22 groundballs, 22 draws, and 14 caused turnovers. Emma Harris has added in 27 points on 21 goals and six assists and Spencer Morgan has scored 19 times and assisted on three others. Rachel Talanian is one of the more active players on the field, ranking in the top five in the league in groundballs (27), caused turnovers (27) and draws (32).
