CU Women's Lacrosse Preview - vs. Utica College (3/12)

Over the last seven years it would be difficult to find two more evenly matched teams than the Clarkson University Women's Lacrosse squad and the Utica Pioneers as the each of those meetings has been decided by two goals or fewer. Clarkson hopes to break that run when the two teams face each other on Saturday afternoon at Hantz Turf Field.

The Golden Knights enter the game with a record of 1-1 after a two goal victory over Oswego State on Wednesday, while Utica comes in at 2-1 on a modest two-game winning streak. Besides the close games in recent years, the two teams are knotted up at 8-8 in the all-time series.

Senior Christine Wright enjoyed a seven-point day against Oswego on Wednesday and now has nine points on the season with five goals and four assists. The three-time conference all-star has produced impressive results against Utica over the years with eight goals and seven assists over the previous three games. Wright found Ashley Flick on three occasions Wednesday as the junior attacker leads the team with six goals thus far. Sophomore Taylor Collins is the only other Clarkson player to record multiple points through the team's two games, scoring twice to go along with six draw controls. Hanna Gleason leads the team with five groundballs and freshman Samantha Gladd is posting a 12.15 goals against average with a .444 save percentage through two contests.

Utica lost some key players on offense from last year, but the team still has Rebecca Plunkett, who scored three goals against the Knights in 2015. She leads the team with 10 points and 20 draw controls, while Courtney Wheeler has also produced solid all-around numbers with nine points, nine groundballs and seven draws. Katlyn Scarpinella is a point behind with eight tallies on seven goals and an assist and Brooke Miller is fourth on the team in scoring with three goals and three assists. Briana Estabrook leads the team with 15 groundballs and ranks second with seven caused turnovers, just two behind Maggie Notter's nine. Kells Casey has played the last two games in goal for the Pioneers, posting a .500 save percentage and a 7.50 goals against average.
