Knights Finish With 1-1 Tie Against Hobart

Potsdam, NY – Aggressive all game, the Clarkson University Men's Soccer team was able to pick up a key point in league play against Hobart College as the two teams fought to a 1-1 double overtime tie on Saturday afternoon at Hantz Turf Field.

The Golden Knights moved to 5-5-1 overall and 1-2-1 in the Liberty League, while Hobart saw its record go to 4-2-4 and 2-0-3 in league games. Clarkson will be back on the road next weekend when it takes on Bard College and Vassar College.

Hobart had a 7-2 advantage in shots in the first half, and the Statesmen delivered on their third attempt of the half. Following a turnover in the midfield, the ball squirted out to the left side near the top of the 18 where Nick Dosky picked it up and sent a ball to the far lower corner. The ball snuck past Ian Roeloffs at close to the midway point of the half (22:35) to give Hobart a 1-0 edge.

Clarkson would tie things up in the second half when the Knights were rewarded a free kick from the left side of the field near the benches. Freshman Mack Walton delivered a perfect pass into the opposite side of the penalty area and found the head of Henry Gomez. The sophomore did the rest, redirecting the pass into the net for a 1-1 tie at 63:04.

The two teams got a few shots off in overtime and the three combined attempts each made it to the goalkeeper, but neither could come up with the game-winner as both settled for the league tie and the accompanying point.

Hobart finished with a 14-7 advantage in shots and a more modest lead in corner kicks (4-3). Ian Roeloffs stopped seven shots for the Golden Knights while Morgan Sawyer denied three shots for Hobart.
