CU Women's Lacrosse Preview - at Oswego State (3/7)

For the third time in a week, the Clarkson University Women's Lacrosse team will be taking on a team from the SUNYAC, as the Golden Knights will be on the road once more when they face Oswego State on Tuesday afternoon.

The Golden Knights are 1-1 on the young season and for the third time they will be facing a team in its season opener. Oswego State and Clarkson both posted records of 12-4 last year, but the Knights came away with a 9-7 win in 2016. Oswego leads in the all-time series, 11-8, but Clarkson has won four of the past five meetings.

So far this year, Clarkson is seeing some different scoring as the team is getting a more balanced effort from its offense. Sophomore Jaid Baytos scored more points in her first game than she did all of last year and she is the early leader for the Knights with six points on five goals and an assist. Senior Kate Dillon is second on the team with five points on four goals and an assist while classmate Ashley Flick has also tallied a goal. Dillon needs 29 more points this year to join Flick in Clarkson's 100-point club. Further out on the all-time scoring list, but nevertheless off to a great start, junior Taylor Collins has tallied three points in the early going. More importantly, Collins leads the team in draw controls (seven) and groundballs (11). Younger sister Abby Collins has been no slouch either, producing a pair of points with five draws, three groundballs and three caused turnovers. Additionally, both Katie Sergeant and Emma Andrews have found the back of the net twice, with Sergeant chipping in an assist as well.

Oswego will have a bit of a different look thanks to the loss of several key players from last season. Teresa Shattuck is back for the Lakers and the team's leading scorer is looking for an appropriate encore to her 79-point freshman campaign. Gemma O'Kane also recorded 41 points last year thanks to 32 goals and nine assists and Kelsey Henderson chipped in 13 points last year. The Lakers scored 232 goals last season, but lost three players to graduation that combined for 171 points overall and, specifically, 107 goals. The seven goals Oswego scored against Clarkson last year marked one of the three times in which the Lakers were held to single digits in goals in 2016.
