CU Women's Lacrosse Preview - at Utica College (3/10)

Just one game remains on the schedule before the Clarkson University Women's Lacrosse team takes off on its annual spring trip, and the Golden Knights are looking to head into their "spring break" on a winning note when they take on Utica College on Friday afternoon.

The game was moved up from its originally scheduled date of Saturday due to cold weather in the forecast for the weekend.

Clarkson won two of its three games against SUNYAC opponents over the last week and now take on an Empire 8 foe, one that the program has had middling success against. The Golden Knights have won only nine of the 17 meetings against the Pioneers, but they more than handled Utica in last year's game, an 11-1 victory. Senior Ashley Flick had a big game against the Pioneers last year, scoring five goals. This year, Flick ranks third on the team in scoring with six points on four goals and two assists, trailing sophomore Jaid Baytos (7-1-8) and classmate Kate Dillon (6-1-7). Junior Taylor Collins ranks fourth on the team in scoring with four points, but she has put in plenty of effort all around the field with team-highs of 17 groundballs and nine draw controls. Freshman Stephanie Scaia is leading the team's defense with seven caused turnovers and nine more groundballs.

Utica is off to a 1-1 start, and the Pioneers are led in virtually every category by senior Rebecca Plunkett. With eight groundballs, nine draws, and three caused turnovers in two games, Plunkett is providing ample production, but she also has a team-best six points on five goals and an assist. Sophomore Katlyn Scapinella is tied for the team lead in points with six thanks to four goals and two assists, while junior Brooke Miller and Sara Hennessey each have contributed four points. Grad student Colleen Dowling has also tossed in three goals and gained five draws. Freshman goalkeeper Hali Vandermeulen has played well in her first games, stopping 51.3% of the shots she faced for saves and a 10.08 goals against average.
