CU Women's Lacrosse Preview - at Rochester/RIT (4/14-15)

Since starting league play, the Clarkson University Women's Lacrosse team has served as the athletic department's version of the cardiac kids, playing three one-goal games, all being decided either in the final minute of regulation or in overtime. The Golden Knights hope to change things up a little this weekend with more breathing room against the University of Rochester and RIT as they take to the road for conference games on Friday and Saturday.

The Golden Knights suffered their first conference loss of the season on Saturday, dropping a 10-9 decision in triple overtime against Rensselaer, but they are still in good shape at 9-2 overall and 2-1 in the Liberty League. Rochester has also played well in conference this season and is 7-2 overall and 3-1 in league games, while RIT is 6-5 overall and 1-3 in the Liberty League. Clarkson is just 4-25 all-time against Rochester, but the Knights have won four of the last five meetings, including a 12-6 decision in 2016. Likewise, the Knights are only 3-6 against RIT, but they have won two of three, claiming an 11-9 win last year.

Sophomore Jaid Baytos is enjoying a breakout season for the Golden Knights with 44 points on 32 goals and 12 assists, tacking on seven more goals over the weekend. Senior Kate Dillon joined Clarkson's 100-point club on Saturday and is up to 35 points on the season thanks to 29 goals and six assists. Taylor Collins is once again putting up impressive numbers across the board with 20 points (13-7), 31 groundballs, 25 draws and 17 caused turnovers. The rest of the top performers for the Knights this year have been the underclassmen. Freshman Katie Sergeant (21-2-23, 20 draw controls) has bolstered the offense, while classmate Abby Collins has 17 points (14-3) to go along with 19 groundballs and 15 caused turnovers. Defensively, Amanda Ellman has contributed 13 caused turnovers and 13 groundballs, Stephanie Scaia has 17 groundballs, and 11 caused turnovers. Samantha Gladd is allowing 7.81 goals per game in the Clarkson crease and has 23 groundballs and a .437 save percentage.

Rochester's success has come largely from its defensive effort in 2017, allowing only 46 goals in nine games. Conley Ernst has a 5.09 goals against average and a .556 save percentage with Danielle Diacovo (22 groundballs, 13 caused turnovers) and Elizabeth Botto (19 groundballs, 11 caused turnovers) doing their best to keep shots from ever coming close to the goal. On offense, Jamie Wallach leads the team with 38 points (26-12) while also putting up good numbers in all other categories, including 26 draws, 23 groundballs and 22 caused turnovers. Madeline Levy is second on the team in scoring with 15 points, doing her damage in just five games. Jamison Seabury (12-3-15, 22 draws) and Mara Karpp (8-7-15) are tied with Levy for second on the team in points, while Brigid Regan is just behind with 12 points on 10 goals and two assists.

RIT hasn't run into much trouble on offense, averaging nearly 13 goals per game, but the team has also allowed nine-plus goals per contest. Six different players average at least one goal per game, with three producing two or more. Emily Livecchi leads the team with 47 points and also boasts team-highs in goals (29) and assists (18). Sydney DaCosta (25-9-34) and Sammy Ward (24-3-27) have been frequent recipients of Livecchi's passes, while Maegen Schmauder (19-5-24), Alanna Fallone (17-2-19) and Nicole Bingo (14-2-16) have produced plenty on offense as well. Fallone and Bingo also lead the team in groundballs (20), with Bingo adding in 31 draws and a team-best 11 caused turnovers. In the RIT crease, Rebekah Snitkoff and Elizabeth Hughes have split time through 11 games. Snitkoff has seen more than 450 minutes of action, posting a 9.52 goals against average and .446 save percentage, while Hughes has usually served her time in relief, providing a .473 save percentage and 8.43 goals against average in more than 200 minutes of play.
