CU Women's Lacrosse Preview - vs. Rochester (4/28)

Five teams are within one game of one another in places three through seven in the Liberty League and the Clarkson University Women's Lacrosse team must win its game against University of Rochester on Saturday to earn its first conference playoff spot in program history, something that the five senior members of the Green and Gold have never accomplished before.

Live Stats/Live Video

Numerous scenarios remain with so many teams tightly packed in the standings, but only the Golden Knights and Yellowjackets can say they control their own destinies. If Clarkson wins, it will move to 6-4 in the league and could possibly host a first-round game. With a loss, the Knights fall into a tie with too many losses against teams with the same record.

The Series: In 30 all-time meetings, Clarkson has won just four times, but all four of those victories have come in the last six years, including wins that the upperclassmen can remember (12-6 in 2016, 8-7 in 2015). The Yellowjackets got the better of the Knights last year, winning 9-7.

Key Stats for Clarkson (11-5 overall, 5-4 Liberty League): Clarkson has committed the fewest turnovers in the conference (229) and allows the second fewest goals per game (7.75) behind only William Smith. Jaid Baytos, recently named the Liberty League Offensive Performer of the Week, is coming off a career-high nine points on four goals and five assists against Union and ranks fourth in the league in goals per game (3.00 gpg) and fifth in points per game (3.94). Sophomores Katie Sergeant (32-6-38), Emma Andrews (32-5-37) and Abby Collins (26-10-36) are still vying for second place on the team in points, with Collins also contributing 36 groundballs, 22 caused turnovers and 38 draw controls. She ranks just behind her older sister Taylor Collins in those columns (37 groundballs, 26 caused turnovers, 39 draws).

Key Stats for Rochester (5-9 overall, 4-5 Liberty League): The Yellowjackets have saved their best performances for league play and are still in the hunt for a conference playoff spot. Rochester could easily have its record switched around, having gone just 1-4 in games decided by two goals or fewer. Jamison Seabury leads the team in points (36) on 26 goals and 10 assists to go along with 29 groundballs, 17 caused turnovers, and 45 draw controls, while Madeline Levy is has the team lead in goals (29). Madeline Mulholland could have a good battle with Clarkson's Baytos on draw controls, ranking third in the league (4.46 dcpg) in that category. Last season, goalkeeper Conley Ernst proved to be the difference maker, stopping 18 of 25 shots on the cage. This season, she has a .476 save percentage with 121 saves.
