With plenty of scoring depth returning along with its starting goalkeeper, the Clarkson University Women's Lacrosse team will look to earn another playoff spot and vie for the Liberty League title in 2019.

The Golden Knights open play against Oswego State on Friday afternoon at Hantz Turf Field. Clarkson will begin its conference slate on March 16 when the team hosts Rensselaer. Clarkson was picked fourth among 11 teams in the league's preseason coaches' poll.

2018 Statistics

Last Year: The Green and Gold made their first postseason appearance in program history, gaining the fifth spot in the conference tournament with a 6-4 mark in league games (12-6 overall). Clarkson did so with a combined effort at both ends of the field, ranking second in the league in goals against average (7.89) and fourth in goals scored (223). The Knights remained the only team in the league to beat William Smith in the past three years, taking a 9-4 victory in early April at snowy Hantz Turf Field. The Knights lose three starters from last year's team in do-everything midfielder Taylor Collins and defenders Abby Gruneisen and Lynette Smith, as well as defensive midfielder Taylor Kwiek, who played in all 18 games as one of the team's top reserves.

Key Returners: Nearly all of the offensive firepower has returned from a year ago, including senior Jaid Baytos. The two-time Liberty League All-Star ranked among the league leaders in points (69, seventh), goals (51, fourth), draw controls (70, third), and shots (144, second). Baytos was far from a one-player show, however, as juniors Katie Sergeant (38-8-46 points), Emma Andrews (35-6-41) and Abby Collins (27-10-37) did their part in season two of their respective collegiate careers. Lexi Smith (8-15-23) and Aubrey Borgesi (19-1-20) also contributed considerably to the offense. In the defensive end, Samantha Gladd ranked third in the conference in goals against average (8.58) and save percentage (.508). The Knights also return a pair of standout defenders in two-time Liberty League All-Star Stephanie Scaia and three-year starter Amanda Ellman. Scaia ranked third on the team in caused turnovers with 20.

Newcomers: The Knights welcome eight first-year collegians to the roster to bolster their hopes for a return trip to the postseason. Megan McCoskey and Anna Patterson will help add to the team's somewhat depleted defensive corps and Sydney Christansen will wait in the wings for her chance in the crease. Sydney Roderick hopes to add to the team's impressive offensive talent while Grace Hagberg, Mia Petrone, Abigail Johnson and Kim Parker should provide depth at midfield.
