Clarkson Ends Regular Season with 15-8 Win Over Rochester

Rochester, NY – With a sixth consecutive win, the Clarkson University Women's Lacrosse team heads into the Liberty League playoffs with plenty of momentum as the Golden Knights ended their regular-season on a positive note, gaining a 15-8 victory over University of Rochester on Saturday afternoon.

The Golden Knights improved to 11-6 overall and 7-3 in the Liberty League, their most wins in conference play in program history. Clarkson earned the third seed in the conference tournament and will host Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute next Tuesday, the Green and Gold's first home playoff game. Rochester closed out its campaign at 5-10 overall and 2-8 in league games.

Clarkson never trailed in Saturday's contest, though the Yellowjackets briefly tied the game on two occasions (2-2, 4-4). Abby Collins scored with 4:17 to go in the first half to give Clarkson the lead for good and Mia Petrone tacked on another first half goal at the 1:08 mark for good measure.

While Rochester stayed close in the early moments of the second half, the Knights scored four goals in a stretch of just two minutes, 13 seconds midway through the latter period. Aubrey Borgesi put Clarkson up 9-6 on a free-position shot at 16:10, but three goals in rapid succession really changed things as Marisa Clark (14:41), Petrone (14:06) and Abby Collins (13:57) pushed the Clarkson advantage to 12-6. Clarkson continued its scoring run a few minutes later with three more goals for a nine-goal margin, and the Knights cruised from that point on for the victory.

Borgesi scored four goals to push her team-leading total to 44 this season, while Baytos also added four points on three goals and an assist. Sydney Roderick tied the program mark for assists in a season at 44 with two more helpers, finishing the game with three points. Collins (three goals), Petrone (two goals) and Natalie Farnett (one goal, one assist) also chipped in on offense. Samantha Gladd made seven saves in the Clarkson crease.

The Knights held a small advantage in total shots (28-23), but a larger margin in shots on goal (25-15).
