Box Score
St. Leo, FL – Despite a strong start, the Clarkson University Women's Lacrosse team found itself playing from behind for the first time in 2023, and the Golden Knights could not catch up down the stretch, falling 21-14 to Rowan University on Wednesday afternoon.

The Golden Knights fell to 5-1 on the season while the Profs moved to 3-2. Clarkson will open conference play this weekend when the team hosts RIT on Saturday afternoon.

Clarkson jumped out to an early lead, taking a 3-1 advantage after Julia Lavarnway scored at the 8:17 mark of the first quarter, but the Profs allied with three straight goals in a stretch of less than three minutes to reclaim the lead. Rowan led the Knights in shots and draws, but Clarkson forced the Profs into seven turnovers in the first 15 minutes.

Rowan cleaned up its miscues for the rest of the contest, committing only seven more turnovers over the final 45 minutes, and the Profs offense was difficult to stop without the mistakes. The key came in the third quarter for Rowan, as the team capitalized on a yellow card that produced two goals in a stretch of just 14 seconds, putting the Profs up 13-9. Clarkson rallied midway through the quarter with consecutive goals from Chrissy Benedict and another score from Madelynn Barnum, cutting the margin to 14-12, but Rowan went on another run to start the fourth period, scoring the first six goals of the quarter to open up the margin.

Chrissy Benedict posted five points on four goals and an assist and Julia Lavarnway scored five points with three goals and two assists. Madelynn Barnum had seven draw controls and scored three times, including the 100th point of her career late in the first quarter. Mia Petrone also tallied three points on two goals and an assist, and Hailey Millington contributed two draws, two caused turnovers, and an assist.

For Rowan, Elaina Corson and Erin Renshaw each had seven points, with Renshaw also adding seven draws and three groundballs. Hannah Lombardo scored four goals and Michaela Donnelly added three goals. Molly Green recorded 10 draws and also produced three points.

Overall, Rowan had a 38-32 edge in shots, a 20-18 advantage in draws, and a 17-12 lead in groundballs. Jennaca McGill made nine saves for Clarkson, and Reilly Shaup had 13 stops for Rowan.
